The quarter southwest is composed of two big chalky trays (until 1247
meters to the mount Cargo).
Pierced of underground cave and avens (Aven Armand), the causse of Sauveterre
and the Méjeans causse ares separated by the Gorges du Tarn.
The lack of water presents a dry vegetation, boxtrees, junipers and thistles.
It is the country of sheep whose milk will serve to the manufacture of the
Roquefort. Here as one wanted to tempt the experience of the réintroduction
with the horse of Przewalski.
The big causseses are edged in south by the Gard and to the west by the
Aveyron. One notes as the existence of causses smaller :causses of Mende or
Changefège.
